“Soundcheck” is a fun and atmospheric intro to the opening track of the FINAL BOSS album, “Umbrella Street”.
The idea behind this piece is simple: instead of starting the show immediately with the actual song, I use this moment to play around with detunable harmonics and atmospheric effects, much like a real soundcheck on stage.
On the album version, you can even hear me walking on stage and plugging in cables, creating a live concert feel right from the beginning!
The piece is built mostly around one-handed harmonics, combined with heavy use of reverb to create a wide, spacious sound.
It also involves all three of my detuning systems: Keith Banjo Detuners, Timara String Drops, and a detunable bridge. Because of this, recreating the song exactly without these systems can be quite difficult.
However, you can always find your own way of adapting the melodies using alternative fingerings or artificial harmonics.
All melodic ideas in “Soundcheck” are based on the main riff of “Umbrella Street”, so when the transition happens, there is a clear sense of familiarity that connects both pieces together in a natural way.
All harmonics, detuning changes, and performance details are explained thoroughly throughout the tablature with detailed text notes.
This is one of the most detailed tabs I’ve ever created. The tablature is provided in Guitar Pro 7 and PDF formats, and the package also includes the album version of the track in WAV format.
