“Every Breath You Take (Guitar & Steel Drum)” is a short and sweet arrangement that explores the combination of guitar and steel drum within a familiar song setting. While the piece itself is quite accessible musically, it requires a very specific setup to recreate it exactly as performed in the album version.
For the guitar, you will need a standard instrument, ideally equipped with Schlagwerk FrameBuzz and Schlagwerk SamJam add-ons to simulate snare and hi-hat and create a more realistic drumming feel.
In addition, the guitar setup includes one Keith Banjo Detuner and one Timara String Drop on the top string to accommodate dynamic tuning changes within the melody.
The steel drum part is performed on a Kosmosky NewWave 15 G Major, which allows for the exact notes and phrasing used in this arrangement.
However, this instrument is not essential.
I encourage you to adapt the second part creatively. It can be played on another guitar, piano, kalimba, or any other instrument, or even performed with another musician!
One of the main challenges of this piece lies in coordinating both hands to perform completely independent parts.
I recommend learning both sides simultaneously from the very beginning, working slowly and building the arrangement note by note.
